Woman's Grand Slam, 8k & 1.2 mi SW Zone Open Water Championship
Mallory Mead, age 25 from Los Angeles, CA set the woman's record on the course combining the winning the Grand Slam 8k (1:52:59) & 1.2 (25:02) 2:18:02 Mallory has been swimming open water for 15 years and attributes her racing in various bodies of water and her experience of "dealing with what you're handed on race day" to her great success. Mallory will be swimming the 12 mile Swim Around Charleston Oct 23, in honor of the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation.
Grand Slam & 1.2 mi SW Zone
Andrew Bray, age 52 from Huntington Beach, CA won the day for the men swimming both the 8k (1:50:25) & 1.2 mile (24:50) events with a combined time of 2:15:16. Andrew has competed in the 25K National Championships in 2002 taking 2nd place and in 2004 taking 3rd place. He attributes swimming 30,000 yards a week preparing for this event along with the comfortable water temperature on race day to his success on the course.

2.4 Mile
Jan Tichy, age 29 from Fountain Valley, CA had the fastest 2.4 mile time, setting a course record of 49:38. Jan is a 100m Butterfly Olympic hopeful and is enjoying getting his feet wet by competing in open water swimming as cross training.

Bill May, age 32 from Henderson NV had a fast swim of 1:50:03 on the 8k course. Bill is a male synchronized swimmer at one of the most popular shows on the Las Vegas Strip, "O" by Cirque du Soliel. This is his 2nd swimming of Slam the Dam and will be back to defend his title.
Female Winners by Event
SUPER SLAM & 2.4 Mile
Meredith Krom, age 24 from Fountain Valley CA won the Super Slam & 2.4 mile (56:34). Her 1.2 mile (28:06) gave her a combined total time of 1:21:38. Meredith trains on her own and enjoys the challenge of ocean swimming. To prepare, she swims 3 times a week long course. This is her first year competing at our event.
