8K Swimmers
This scenic and beautiful course is a point to point race. You will start at the Sunset View Overlook inside
Lake Mead NRA and finish at Boulder Beach. VIEW MAP A kayak escort is mandatory for this event. You and your kayaker must check in together or you will not be allowed to start. Why you ask?
First Timers: Open water experience is mandatory for this event. Swimming 8K is not an easy undertaking but it is a fun, challenging distance. We've marked out a beautiful course for you die hard swimmers with no loops. It's point to point, so there's no turning back once you start! Safety is our #1 Priority Swimmers should have proper training leading up to this event. Planning your nutrition is an important factor in your success as is proper conditioning. Be sure to do your research: practice feeding in the water, get in your long swims and be safe! Participants have 4 hours to complete the 8k. Suggested Training Article SHUTTLE Shuttle Times: 5:20 & 5:45 at Boulder Beach near the registration tents Consider having a friend drop of you and your paddler so you don't miss the start of the race! 6:30 am Check-In Closes. 6:45 am Mandatory Kayaker & Swimmer Safety Meeting 7:00 am 8k Swimmers Start 11:30 am Course closes for all swimmers. Please bring a copy of your USMS Membership card or pay a $10 race day coverage fee. Wetsuits are not allowed for this distance. Swimmers and kayakers must meet at the Sunset View Overlook, on Lake Shore Rd. To be sure your race morning runs smoothly, please coordinate with a 3rd party to drop off the swimmer and kayaker at the race start. The kayak will need to be carried 1/4 mile down a dirt path to the swim start. A headlamp may be necessary if you arrive early. Please allow ample time to check-in, unload your kayak/gear and get you and your swimmer down to the waters edge. Parking is extremely limited and we advise you to coordinate with other swimmers to carpool from Boulder Beach. All swimmers MUST have kayak support, otherwise you will not be permitted to swim. |
